Since 1992 JO Sims has been investing in its own orchards in the USA. We now farm almost 1500 acres in Washington State, producing organic and conventional fruit, and developing new varieties for our customers.
Steve Pauly is our Manager in the US, and as well as overseeing our own crop, he also quality controls other fruit we import from North America. Steve is responsible for ensuring that the fruit
we ship from the US is exactly in accordance with our customers’
requirements. He was born into a fruit growing family and has over 30 years experience in the apple & cherry business.
Importantly he spent two years working in UK & European
markets providing insight and ideas for improvements in how fruit is supplied.
“Each year the complexity of growing and marketing fruit,
particularly organic fruit, has increased along with demand... |

...from the UK,” says Steve. “UK customers want
uniformity in size and shade, and I work closely
with the orchards to increase the volume of fruit
that meets the correct standards. We achieved a
significant increase in crop size in 2008, especially
of high quality, smaller sized organic apples.”
Steve works with Orchard Manager Paul Carter,
a qualified Horticulturalist who has worked in all aspects of fruit and orchard management since graduating in 1993.
Having people such as Steve and Paul to represent our interests overseas, is of enormous benefit
to ourselves and our customers. Their careful
stewardship of our crop and other imports from America guarantees that we are able to provide
our customers with the highest standards of
quality and reliability. |
