From market trader to market leader

J.O. Sims was founded by entrepreneur Josiah Oliver Sims in London in 1896. Modern methods of farming and transportation opened up new opportunities in the fruit and vegetables trade and Josiah was keen to play a part in developing this market.

With sons Victor and Wilfred, Josiah transformed the family firm into a market leader, importing fruit from Europe and the USA. Victor’s son Keith joined the company in the 1950s and is still chairman today.

In 1990, Christopher, son of Keith and great-grandson of Josiah, joined the family business and is now managing director.

Originally based in London’s Pudding Lane and later in the Borough Market, London, the company moved to Spalding, Lincolnshire, in 1996.

During the last century, J.O. Sims has retained its independence, heritage, passion, entrepreneurial spirit and traditional values which have resulted in many years of successful trading. With solid managerial and financial foundations, the company’s presence in this market is assured.
