Ripening rooms
Among the facilities offered by J.O. Sims at its Spalding depot are two 24-pallet ripening rooms. Based on banana ripening equipment, this state-of-the-art, partial pressure facility, has been customised to allow operation under conditions from -5°C to +30°C to suit different fruits. This facilitates the rapid cooling of produce in addition to the normal function of ripening.
Furthermore, to stabilise the air and minimise the risk of free moisture being introduced into the rooms (to avoid growth of mold, mildew and bacteria), air mixing and humidification take place in an enlarged plenum chamber.
Packhouse
J.O. Sims has its own packhouse, which is well equipped to carry out the following packing procedures:
- Flow-wrapping
- Overwrapping
- Dried fruit packing
- Quad packing
